Creating Effective Job Aids for the College of Business at CSUMB
Link to the Project Summary Site Link to E-learning created for this project This project has worked to address several institutional issues that have arisen as the College of Business has experienced extreme growth in the last 5 years which has led to a lack of both training and a systematic approach to onboarding new employees. In discussing the issue with subject matter experts and my advisor, it was identified that training needs supporting documentation in order to continue to “stick” after training with staff was completed. However, there was no systematic documentation or process within the college to create job aids or any supplemental support after training, and staff had little familiarity with how to plan and effectively create a job aid. Job aids that were created had outdated and often were ineffective. Therefore, training in conjunction with the creation of procedure with heavy input from the SME was used to solve this problem and lay a groundwork for future efforts to improve training and onboarding for staff. The lesson is fully self-led, only requiring outside input to review the created job aids and provide feedback after the lesson. The content of the lesson heavily influenced where the information was stored. Items like file location, information about the process and who is responsible for the process, and other information that is likely to change were created and edited on Google Sites to allow all college of business staff to edit when necessary. Information that was unlikely to change was added to a web-based training that was then embedded into the site. The training was created using a conjunction of Articulate Rise 360, and Canva for graphic design. The project was usability tested using direct observation and pre/post surveys and launched shortly after edits were made. Some minor adjustments were made based on the initial formative evaluation feedback and the lesson is now fully operational on the College of Business’ intranet site. Levels 1 and 2 summative evaluations are completed by learners both before and after the course. |
