Some reflection on the Portfolio Creation Process
This activity was a good one and offered several great reminders for me. I've done quite a bit of drag-and-drop paid web design - but it's been a few years since I paid my bills maintaining websites like that. I thought that I would be able to jump in here and create this page in no time flat; I used to be able to do that really well! However, the structure and the learning curve to using Weebly (which was very manageable, but different from WIX where I usually design) was a great reminder that I DO need to set aside time for projects, even ones that I think will go quickly and are within my wheelhouse. I did remember, a little too late, that you can copy and paste pages that you want to look the same and save some time- which is what I ended up doing for all my "Course" pages and will end up doing for additional assignments with this page.
I'm a big fan of big, block-y, contrasting pages and easy to read text - and a photo that humanizes me. I know that professional head-shots are important too, but I think to that having something lead that shows that I am approachable and a real person is important - but that could be stemming from my work as an administrator, where the tendency is to forget that we aren't paper processing robots. In the coming weeks, I'd like this to more match my WIX design page (and frankly that one needs some updating) - so I'll probably change the fonts and colors to more match that page when the time comes to try and link the two.
