Final ePortfolio Reflection
Prompt:
25 pts - Self Assessment - Your score will be based on how well you have reviewed your own ePortfolio...rating its strengths and weakness, and describing the improvements you have made...and those that you plan to make. And your own assessment of skills and knowledge you have gained in IST501, and those that require additional work to reach a basic level. Include this personal review and reflection on a separate page in your ePortfolio and post the link to it here.
1) Professionalism - 8/10
I feel my portfolio is fairly professional for the design field I was previously in and appropriate for some of the more informal jobs I have had for small non-profits or higher education. However, I would want to go through and clean up some of the assignment descriptions and make sure that everything looks really sleek - especially if this was my "business" page. I would want to make sure it showed off a little more of what I can do regarding coding and design. However, I feel that this page would be something I'd be proud to include with a resume or as evidence of my capabilities as a drag/drop designer. I struggle with catching typos, and much of the feedback I received from peers was identifying that. Before I share this with potential clients, I'll really need to check several times for mistakes or errors, but this is something I know about myself. I would also probably modify the landing page if I were to get hired at a more formal job- say for a law firm or business.
2) Navigation and Functionality 7/10
I feel that my page needs to be restructured slightly to be a bit easier to navigate around- I would like to change my page template to include "Next Assignment," "Return to Course," "Return Home" buttons in the footer. However, I think the present structure makes sense in the capacity it's being used in - as a place to store work for this program in particular.
3) Visual Design 9/10
I'm incredibly biased here, but I really like the visual design of my website. I think it's clean; the font/sizing is good for catching attention and making sure the work is clear and it's easy to read. I always appreciate sites where it's evident what you should be looking at and where you should be looking. I want to edit my header photos a little bit more and probably change up the photo as the terms continue- that way, there a visual distinction between the pages and keeps things interesting. I want to use my own photography to don't end up with an accidental copyright violation or have to purchase photos to use.
4) Content 7/10
I feel the content of my IST 501 portion is spot on. My reflections do reflect who I am and what I am looking to get out of the class. I also think that it gives a good overview of what I would be like to work with. In some ways, I think my flaws are there, too- I tend to get lost in tangents and get really excited over new technology. I also really like gardening! I know that I need to add content from my other classes and clean that up as the large projects become more complete - eventually, I'd like to have almost all of my papers and small discussions linked or posted. I also think it's important to include (positive) feedback that you received, especially if you are trying to validate your work for a potential client or employer.
Overall 8/10
I know I still have room to grow. Still, I'm excited to continue to mold this site into something that I can eventually provide to employers to show my skills and understanding of instructional design. An item I really need to continue working on (and evidenced by many of my projects here) is my time-management skills. Much of what I did was at a more basic level than I would have liked. I'm going to continue to hone my ability to allocate the time that the program deserves to ensure that all the work I produce is a quality that I would be comfortable showing to a future employer.
The term so far in this program has been challenging. There have been many unexpected difficulties and successes that come with both working in groups at the graduate level and getting back into the swing of college 7 years after you graduated. However, I'm excited that I feel confident in the technology, and I'm slowly getting into the rhythm of school- something I'm looking forward to continuing through the rest of this term and the rest of this program.
